Tony and Tawny Arnds, Church Planter, Folsom Bible Church, Folsom, California
Tony is starting a church in Folsom, California, beginning in February of this year with a Bible study attended by about 25 people. They hope to start Sunday services in September. The focus of their studies is to “Promote the fame of Jesus Christ for the glory of God and the joy of all people.” Ben Nissen is currently helping by leading a study on evangelism this summer. They earnestly desire to grow this church through evangelism and discipleship among people who are not already in other churches. A church plant like this will need help in a variety of areas – facility setup/tear-down, musicians, childcare, teachers, audio/video technicians, greeters, and many more. Pray that God will provide people to enable these many varieties of ministry for the new church and that God would bring many people together to grow in community and in exalting Christ.
Tony, raised in a non-Christian home, wanted to “cowboy” growing up. He and Tawny met during high school and were married after graduation. After college, while working on a cattle ranch in Montana, the ranch owner pointed Tony to the Bible, leading Tony to pray, “God, if you are real, I want to know you.” Later, Tony heard a radio sermon on the same Bible passage. In response, Tony got down on his knees and prayed to receive Christ. His burden of sin left, and Tony’s desire in life changed to live for Jesus and shepherd people. Tawny came to faith a few weeks later. This change led them to Bible college and then the Masters Seminary. Following seminary, Tony was called to be the pastor at Potters Valley Bible Church (PVBC) where he served for 18 years. Tony and Tawny have 3 grown sons – Jess (married), Joey (married), and Josh (headed to college).
